Stockport Academy, Cheadle Heath
A secondary school is reborn as a city academy after 60 years of education!
Avondale High School in Stockport, which will be relaunched as a privately-backed academy in late summer 2008 is currently under construction by Derbyshire based Bowmer & Kirkland at a cost of £28m.
TASC were on site initially drilling and chasing for M&E services throughout the school It made sense for Bowmer & Kirkland to extend work packages based on an already solid working relationship. TASC had recently introduced a hole cover system to protect from trip injuries and falling materials on site, Bowmer & Kirkland quickly saw an opportunity to reduce risk and protect all holes at the time of drilling.
TASC worked closely with the Bowmer & Kirkland Site Management Team in the design, testing and installation of a full package of sealing works for the structure;
- Fire Protection to compartment walls throughout the school.
- Air Sealing to the building envelope to meet stringent guidelines set down in Approved Document L.
- Acoustic works to BB93 standard for schools - (Stockport academy lies in the flight path for Manchester International Airport demanding effective acoustic protection around the building perimeter for the benefit of pupils, staff and the learning environment).
